About Raipur
Raipur is the capital of the newly established state of Chattisgarh. The city of Raipur is spread over an area of more than 220 acres. The beautiful Mahanadi River originates in Raipur and nestles it from the eastern side. In the northwest the magnificent Maikal Hill can be seen. Geographically the city has its northern end to the chotanagpur plateau and the southern end of the Bastar plateau. The northern end of the city is in minerals where as the southern has thick flora covering it.
Ram Chandra discovered Raipur. He was a Kalchuri king, who ruled in the 14th century. The Mauryans and Haikya rulers ruled the city. Raipur is blessed with rich fertile soil due to the presence of the tributaries of Mahanadi River. It is referred as the ‘Rice Bowl of India’ as several varieties of rice are grown.
The city is emerging as an industrial hub due to the presence of large reserves of coal. Industries dealing into the production of Aluminum , power and steel. The development of a chilly plant in the city has made it into a progressive industrial center.
The town is an assortment of countless tourist destinations. One can visit shrines, museums, sanctuaries, parks, dams and many more sites. For the wildlife lovers the has the Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary, Sita Nadi Sanctuary and Udanti Sanctuary.For spiritual healing one can visit the Mahamaya Temple, Budhapara Lake, Vivekananda Ashram, and Shadani Darbar. For Art lovers the city offers different styles of music and dances some of which are Raut Nacha, Dewar Nacha, Panthi & Soowa, Padki andPandwani. At the city tourists can buy handicrafts, zari work, zardosi work and wooden carvings. Metal jewelry and exquisite furniture or other things travelers can shop for in Raipur.
