About Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang
Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang is a Buddhist temple in the form of chorten (stupa) located across the Paro Chhu River and on the road that goes towards National Museum of Bhutan. The Buddisht iconography depicted inside the temple is regarded as one of its kind storehouse of the Drupka Kagyu school. There is a huge collection of Buddist paintings.
The temple consists of total three floors that represents earth, hell and heaven. You can see the Meditation of Five Buddhas while the second and third floors depicts Mahakala and Tantric deities respectively. It also contains various vertical ladders to reach the different floors. There are various stories associated with who actually built the temple. Some people say that it had been built by Saint Thangtong Gyalpo to suppress a ‘’serpentine force’’ located at the foundation of the stupa. It is also said that hill by which the temple is constructed is actually a black brutal snake moving downwards.
