About National Museum of Bhutan, Paro
The National Museum of Bhutan was built in order to store or house some important samples of Bhutan’s art that includes various masterpieces of statues made of bronzed and several other paintings. It was established in the year 1968 and is a cultural museum located in the city of Paro, Bhutan. There are various galleries constructed inside the museum where you can see some expansive collection of different artistic objects and they are displayed on scientific lines.
One can find some collection of thangkas that showcases Bhutan’s main teachers and saints. The Heritage gallery has some statues of religious deities as well as stone carvings. Some original iron-links from the Tamchhog Bridge of Bhutan can also be found here. There is also another gallery inside the museum known as the Natural-History Gallery. It provides an overall account of Bhutan and information on the country’s flora, fauna as well as festivals. It has about 3000 works of Bhutanese art which covers more than 1500 years of its cultural tradition. The museum is just at the top of the hill above the Paro Dzong and initially was an old watch-tower. The museum received severe destruction due to the earthquake in 2011, but the renovation process got complete in 2015.
