About Royal Botanical Garden, Thimphu
Founded as the first of its kind in Bhutan, the Royal Botanical Garden occupies an expansive area of nearly hundred twenty kilometres square and forms the backdrop of the Dochula Pass. It was inaugurated on the centenary of the monarchical rule in Bhutan.
The garden proves to be a delight to the senses of a nature lover and is famous for its rhododendrons among the other species of plants which also include over a hundred different varieties of ferns. It is also home to several rare animals and birds like the red panda, musk deer and the blood pheasants.
The Garden also boasts of the Baritsho Lake and several nature trails and treks, including the Rhododendron walk and Dochula Nature Trail. It is also divided into five sections which consist of the rose garden, economical garden and more.
Though it lacks maintenance, the Garden is a wonderful endeavor of the country to preserve its green environment and guarantees the visitors an experience which can be only attained from Nature.
