About Sarkaria Cactus Garden
Spread over 7 acres, The Sarkaria Cactus Garden is a beautiful and well maintained cactii garden in Panchkula, Sector 5. It has almost all the species of Cactus (about 2500 of them) and is one of the biggest in Asia. Landscaped by Dr. J.S. Sarkaria, the garden is an effort to conserve the rare and endangered species of Indian succulents. Development of this garden started in July 1987. Popular groups are Opuntias (prickly pears and chollas), Ferocactus (barrels). Other succulents include Agaves, Columnar cacti, Echinocereus (hedgehogs), and Mammillarias (pincushions). While walking through the garden you will be able to view dozens of species. It is quite large with a beautiful landscape so it's quite aesthetically pleasing for photo enthusiasts to enjoy and shoot. The garden adjoins an open air theatre and a much larger park. All in all, a must visit place and an enriching experience.
