About Natural History Museum
The city of Chandigarh is thronged by tourists coming from different parts of the country and outside, who want to catch a glimpse of the picturesque beauty and the historical attractions of the place. The Natural History Museum reminds one of the heritage of Chandigarh and adjoining areas. This museum owes its existence to the partition of the country in August, 1947. Before the partition in 1947, the collection of art objects, paintings, sculptures and decorative arts, was housed in the Central Museum, Lahore, the then capital of Punjab. Located in Sector 10, Government Museum & Art Gallery in Chandigarh came into existence in the year 1968 and houses magnificent Gandhara period stone sculptures. You can also find beautiful miniature paintings over here. Basically, the museum covers several media - textiles, paintings - ancient and modern; archeological bits and pieces. There is also a spacious reference library built in the premises in order to meet the intellectual needs of scholars and students. Presently, the museum is divided into four wings, the Art Gallery, National History Museum, Chandigarh Architecture Museum and National Gallery of Portraits. This is a must visit place for all art lovers.
Timings: 10:00 a. m. to 4:30 p.m. except on Mondays and National and Public holidays.
Entry Fee: Rs. 10/- There is no entry fee for children below 12 years and senior citizens.
Camera Fee: Rs. 5/-
Guided tours: Daily at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
