About Le Corbusier Centre
When Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru professed a desire for a new state capital for Punjab and Haryana that he said would be, "unfettered by the traditions of the past, a symbol of the nation's faith in the future", the Swiss-born architect, Le Corbusier, was approached and hired for this task in 1950. The Le Carbusier Centre, established on 26th October, 2008 to mark the architect’s 121st birth anniversary, was originally his office while he was working on the blueprint of this modernist city, Chandigarh. Original drawings, letters, his office table, chairs, scale model of the Tower of Shadows, and a whole lot of historical documents and photographs of the place with a few personal artifacts dating to the birth of "the City Beautiful" are housed in the Le Corbusier Centre in Sector 19. It’s only because of Corbusier’s modernist vision that Chandigarh is by far the most organized and architecturally sound city in India. The contributions of Le Corbusier made to the city of Chandigarh were extraordinary, and this museum does well to communicate this.
