About Simhachalam
Simhachalam or Shimadri is a religious center which is dedicated to Lord Narashima, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple which is located atop the hill is considered as one among the 18 Kshetram dedicated to Lord Narashima. Also it is second largest temple with high revenues preceding the Thirupati Temple which is first richest temple of India. Tourists can worship the deity in its actual form (Nijaroopa Darshan) only for 12 hours on the Akshya Trithya Celebrations every year. For the rest of the year the deity is completely covered with Sandalwood Paste. Every year on Vaisakha Month i.e. in May Month “Chandanotsavam” festival is celebrated in this temple. The architecture of the temple is blend of Orissan and Dravida style. Nearly 252 inscriptions in both Oriya and Telugu say that this temple is an important temple in ancient times. The temple dated back to 1st century A.D. The Simhachalam hill is thickly vegetated with cashews, shrubs, Mango grooves etc and thus nature lovers get amazed by Simhachalam. Trekkers can have some good time by trekking through the forest areas of the hillock.
