About Bellary
Bellary district in Karnataka borders with the state of Andhra. The main geographical attraction to the city is the granite hills named as Kumbara Gudda and Ballari Gudda. The city has been named after Goddess Durugamma. The city has a long list of kingdoms, which ruled the city some of them were the Satavahanas, Kadambas, Sevunas, Chalukyas, Kalachuryas and Hoysalas.
There are many events of the great epic Ramayana, which are connected to Bellary. It is believed that when Lord Ram and Lakshman were searching for Sita they met Sugreeva and Hanuman at this place.
Another Attraction for the historians and the archaeological lovers is the Bellary fort. The Bellary fort had been built and ruled by Tipu sultan , who was also known as “The Tiger of Mysore” .The fort has been built on the single colossal rock known to be the second single largest rock mountain in the entire world.
Closer to the city is another world- renowned heritage site known as Hampi. It had been the capital of the famous Vijaynagar Empire. History remembers Hampi for the disastrous Battle of Talikota, fought here, after the battle the ruins of ancient monuments have stood the mayhem caused by humankind and still remind of the grandeur of a long gone times. The city has a pleasant weather all around the year. The best time to visit Bellary is from October to March.
