About Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur
Built by the government of Rajasthan with the objective of preserving traditional arts and crafts of the state, Jawahar Kala Kendra is a multidisciplinary arts center that doesn't see a lull in its activities drama; film screenings, craft fairs, music and dance performances, workshops and seminars are perpetual. It is well known for its architecture and design, and was planned by noted architect Charles Correa in 1986. It is popular with art curators, thanks to its two permanent and three temporary art galleries.
The Centre’s own theatre festival, which it hosts every year, also attracts considerable attention. Frequent drama festivals are held in Madhyavarti, Rangayan and Krishnayan, the 3 theatres within the complex. The complex is also home to a commendable library, which houses over ten thousand art journals, and an audio visual library that maintains efficient documentation of activities held in the center. Duly planned trips that coincide with ongoing festivals should make this an interesting visit.
