About Kala Patthar
Nothing is as surreal as viewing the Mount Everest from up close and Kala Patthar is the place to do so. Kala Patthar literally means “black rock”, both in Hindi and Nepali and is a small peak. Located in the Pumori region of the Nepalese Himalayas, this is a very popular destination among trekkers.
Kala Patthar is not a proper mountain, standing at a height of only 10m but is a loved spot among a large population of hikers and trekkers because it provides the most accessible point of view to Mt. Everest right from the base camp to its peak. It is also popular since it is one of the highest points among the many popular points in Nepal that can be reached easily without any trekking experience or gears. (Though it’s still not as EASY as it sounds!)
Kala Patthar offers a spectacular view of the sunset since the light on the mountains is just amazing. Other popular destinations close to this place are Namche Bazar and the Thyangboche Monastery, reflecting the renowned Sherpa culture. A trip to Kala Patthar is sure to surpass your expectations!
