About Mylapore
Mylapore otherwise known as Thirumayilai is the oldest residential area in Chennai. As per historical fact, Mylapore is termed as birthplace of great Tamil poet and saint “Thiruvalluvar”, who authored the globally acclaimed “Thirukural” scripts. Mylapore is renowned for many interesting spots like lush green tree lined avenues, 7th century Kapaleeswarar Temple, Santhome Church, Music and Cultural Sabhas (Academy), residential buildings of 19th century architectural style, Ramakrishna Math etc.
Here we can come across huge population of Smartha Brahmins, a subsect of Brahmin, who first settled in this region. One should all taste lip smacking Brahmin cuisines and filter coffee available in many tiny eateries called “Mess” in and around Mylapore area.
