About Kelwa and Mahim Beach
Thane district is renowned for the 7 km long weekend destination namely Kelwa Beach. This beach is picturesque backdrop with the array of Suru Trees and Sandy Coastline. Tourists throng Kelwa beach on weekends to escape from Mumbai’s hustle and bustle. Nearby the Kelwa Beach, there is a Sheetladevi Temple. Mahim Beach is situated some 5 km away from Kelwa Beach and is popularly termed as “Fruit Town”. This small fishing hamlet is wrapped up by enormous Coconut trees and Betel leave plants. Along with coconut and betel leaves, variety of bananas namely Rajelli, Tenbeli, Mutheli and Velchi etc are exported to Middle East from Mahim. Also in Mahim, you have to visit the prime shrine dedicated to Goddess Mahikavati after whom the village got the name.
