About Rumi Darwaza
Popularly termed as Turkish Gate”, Rumi Darwaza was built by Asaf-ud-Daulah in 1784 nearby Bara Imambara. Rumi Darwaza was constructed using Awadhi Architecture and it resembles the Sublime Porte of Istanbul. Elevated to 60 feet height Rumi Darwaza and the entire stretch upto Chattar Manzil was described as beautiful cityscape by a New York Times reporter in 18th-19th century. As well the reporter stated that it was most beautiful than Rome, Paris, London and Constantinople. Rumi Darwaza is the Government Logo of Lucknow.
