About Nepalganj
As Nepal’s second city, Nepalganj is a chief transport hub with mountain flights to distant airstrips in northwestern Nepal, a full of activity border with India, and the neighboring airport to Bardia National Park. Nepalganj is a grainy border town with an Indian savor as you will hear more Hindi spoken than Nepali. If you discover yourself spending time in Nepalganj, take a leisurely walk through the old bazaar where you’ll find some gorgeous silver Tharu jewellery.
Nepalganj is 16km south of the Mahendra Hwy and 6km north of the Indian border. It’s about 1km from the Nepali border post at Jamunaha to the Indian border post at Rupaidha Bazaar – it’s walk-able, but less hectic by rickshaw. Nepalganj is ethnically rich, and home to Nepal’s biggest Muslim community, as well as having an ample expat community of foreign-aid workers. There are half a dozen small temples strung out down the main road throughout the bazaar, with the garish Bageshwari Mandir, dedicated to Kali, probably the most appealing. There are straight flights from Kathmandu (45-55minute) flight, daily. Moreover From Kathmandu there are dozens of daily bus services to Nepalgunj.
