About Jallianwala Bagh
Jallianwala Bagh is a national monument commemorating the 2000 proud Indians that were murdered by the British army in a tragic incident- ”The Jalian Walabagh Massacre”.
On 13 April 1919, thousands of Indians, a mass of unarmed innocent people including women and children, were gathered here for a peaceful meeting. Suddenly they were bombarded by bullets from the British army. The firing lasted for 10 whole minutes taking the lives of 1579 innocent people.
A memorial was built on the place that still speaks of the sad history that it carries through its bullet punctured walls. The wells into which those unfortunate souls jumped, just to escape from the fury of the guns still stand erect telling us the pains that they must have endured.
A mere five minute walk from the Golden temple this memorial encompassed in a vast garden is a must see place.
