About Manjarabad Fort, Sakleshpur

This stragetically built defensive fort, Manjarabad Fort is built by Tipu Sultan to protect the plateau beyond Sakleshpur to be approached. This one level fort is located on hillock at an altitude of 3240 ft above sea level. Crossed shaped pits with staircases serves as a water source. The entire fort is built in Star Shape. It is also used as storage place for ammunitions during Tipu Sultan period. There was a tunnel which leads the soldiers to Sri Rangapatinam, the capital city of Tipu Sultan reign. Later during battle dead bodies are dumped in this tunnel. The soldiers in this fort can easily see the British army approaching through Mysore road.

Inspite of located at a distance of 46 km from Hassan, the fort is worth visiting.
