About Khaling Wildlife Sanctuary
Also called the Khaling Neoli Wildlife Sanctuary, it is the smallest natural protected area in Bhutan, occupying nearly three hundred square kilometer. Since it is located in southern Bhutan, it shares half of its territory with a wildlife sanctuary of the same name in Assam, India. Despite its size, the reserve is no less in terms of lush greenery and mystic beauty unruffled by the rivers flowing through it.
It provides home to the rare Pygmy Hog, Hispid Hare and Elephants, Gaur and other tropical wildlife. The Reserve has been marked as a major Bird Preservation site and rare avian species such as chestnut-breasted partridge and rufous-necked hornbill can be spotted. The vegetation includes evergreen forests, rainforests and subtropical forests and grasslands.
To explore this Sanctuary in its true form, it is advisable to maintain peace so as not to scare away the animals.
