About Sri Kailasanathar Temple
About 22 kilometers east of Salem, in the town of Tharamangalam, is Salem District’s most popular and one of its most beautiful attraction - The Kailasanathar Temple. Built as early as the 7th century, some still-standing parts of this Kailasanathar Temple go as back as the 10th century. It attracts visitors from all over because of its impressive collection of statues and carvings and because of the great phenomenon that occurs here every year from February 21 to 24, when the rays of the sun visibly makes it way across the temple onto the statue of Siva, illuminating it.
