About Tiruchirapalli

Tiruchirapalli or Trichy is an important district in Tamil Nadu state. It lies in the heart of Tamil Nadu state of Southern India. River Kaveri flows through the city and becomes a vital source of irrigation and water supply. Trichy gained its fame and glory through centuries under various dynasties. Woraiyur in Trichy district served as the capital city of Chola dynasty from 300 B.C. Till 8th century the city was ruled by Pallavas and Pandyas. After 8th century the Chola Empire took the control. Even Hoysalas ruled the Trichy city for a while. Rock Fort, the main attraction of Trichy was built by Nayak Ruler named Viswanatha Nayak in 17th century. The Nayaks of Madurai contributed to the city a lot. The Muslim Rulers like, Chanda Sahib and Mohamed Ali took the help of either French or British Army and ruled Trichy. The famous Carnatic War, the war between British and French Rulers to prove their Supremacy, took place around the city of Tiruchirapalli in 18th century. Till the independence of India, the city was ruled by British for about 150 years.

Trichy is the commercial and industrial hub of Tamil Nadu. India’s famous Ordnance Factory, Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), Golden Rock railway Workshop etc. is situated in Tirchy. Educational institutes like National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Anna University of Technology is located in Trichy. Other than Rock Fort, Srirangam Temple, there are many church, missionary, colleges in Tirchy which dates back to 17th century. Trichy is famous for Trichinopoly Cigars which are exported widely in 19th century to UK.

The festivals like Aadi Perukku (August) and Vaikunta Ekadasi (December) is celebrated in pompous and grandeur every year in Trichy City. Wooden Idols, Gem cuttings are few of the crafts done in Trichy. Expensive hotels like Grand Gardenia, PLA Krishna Inn, Hotel Sangam, Breeze Residency etc and the Budget hotels like Ramyas Hotel, Hotel Sona etc offers a comfortable and pleasant for tourists. Tourists can taste some of the traditional South Indian Delicacies and Chettinadu Cuisines (Veg and Non-Veg) in Tirchy. Vegetarian Restaurants like Hotel Sangeetha, Hotel Vasantha Bhavan and Non-Vegetarian Restaurants like Kannapa, Hotel Banana Leaf etc offers delicious cuisines to tourists and locals.
