About Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary
Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is located in the Yumthang valley. Need I say anymore? Yumthang! Surrounded by the ranges of Chuba Sagochen and Chomzomei Tso, combined with the Chu River, it is so beautiful that it can render the most articulate man speechless. During the seasons of spring and early summer, this place seems to be in flames. The Rhododendron flowers are non pareil. No photograph can do justice to what meets the eye here. So many colours, so many rhododendrons spread over an area of 43 sq kms. The place is like a picturesque piece of heaven with meadows, springs, flowers and the Kanchenjunga. Shingba’s attraction might be the flowers but the place is simply awesome in winters. Its white- washed with snow and looks like a piece of Siberia at its best but not to worry; the temperature is totally bearable. This is just the place for photographers, be it summer or winter.
