About Kishtwar National Park
Located about 250 KMs from Jammu, spread over an area of 400 sq. kms and perched at an altitude ranging from 1700 m to 4800 mts, Kishtwar National Park is located in the Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir.
The park contains 15 mammal species including the hangul, markhor, musk deer and Himalayan black and brown bear, leopard. One of the main features of the park is the Hangul - a Kashmiri Stag which migrates to this region during winters.
There are over 50 species of birds found in the park including Himalayan Snowcock, Himalayan jungle crow, griffon vulture, bearded vulture, golden oriole, paradise flycatcher, white cheeked bulbul, Indian Mynah.
The terrain of the region under the Kishtwar National Park is rugged and rocky and a fine blend of wildlife and amazing mountain ranges.
Thanks to the Himalayas, the Kishtwar National Park is not much affected by monsoons. Beside wildlife and bird watching, one can also go for trekking and various other jungle activities in this park. September to March happens to be the best season for bird watching and March to May for other activities.
