About BM Birla Science Centre and Archaeological Museum
One of the prestigious centers for promulgation of science. The institute founded by the Birla Group is situated in the Adarsh Nagar area of Hyderabad. Enormous formal and informal research and studies are carried out in the institute. There are separate sections for Planetarium, Dinosaurium, Archaeology and fine arts. The museum here reveals the India’s achievement in the scientific field. Exhibits of the museum include perceptions, illusions, mechanics, optics, electronics etc. The art gallery of the institute has finest collections of art works done by Jamini Roy, Ambitabh Banerjee, and Paritosh Sen etc. Bronze and modern sculptures captivate the viewers. The most significant feature is the Terra Cota murals which state the Bhagavad Gita Chapter X. Art and Science lovers must pay a visit to this institute while in Hyderabad.
The Planetarium was inaugurated in 1985, Birla Planetarium was the initial phase of science center. The planetarium acclaimed better ratings than its counter parts across the globe. Halley’s Comet, Solar system, black holes, dark energy discovery, etc. are well presented here. Several courses related to Astronomy and Astrophysics are conducted by the Planetarium.
The Dinosaurium was later added to the planetarium in 2000 exhibits the fossils objects of dinosaurs eggs, marine shells, etc. The most striking feature of Dinosaurium is the fossil excavation of 160 million year old Kotasaurus Yamanpalliensus from Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh State.
