Southern Group Of Temples , Khajuraho
About Southern Group of Temples
These are the temple structures that are distant from other groups in Khajuraho and the two main temples found here are Dulhadev Temple and the Chattarbhuj Temple.
Dulhadev Temple is lonely and last temple in the complex, sitting south of Ghantai. This is yet another abode for Lord Shiva. The striking feature in this temple is the beautifully sculpted forms of apsara and other ornamented figures that line up the tired walls, from base to shikara. Their beautiful faces with mesmerizing smiles are etched so clearly and are sure to captivate hearts.
Chattarbhuj Temple is really unique for the reason that this is the only temple in the entire complex, devoid of sculptures that are anyway sensual or erotic in nature. This temple of Lord Vishnu holds the most imposing and intricately carved, four armed (Chattur bhuj) Vishnu idol. It is believed to be brought specially from Tibet, by the king who built the temple.
