About Spituk Monastery
The site of a recent change of hands from the ‘red hat’ to the ‘yellow hat’ brand of Buddhist. The monastery has 100+ monks donned with the rather attractive regalia, made of local Kashmiri materials with the weaving and dying techniques which have made the area famous. The hats themselves are constructed of fabulous lateral yellow wool and bound together with single piece of yellow material something like a centurion’s helmet. The colorful monks are reflected in vibrancy by the jumping colours they’ve given their temple and the vibe of upbeat enlightenment that comes across.
