About Prakasam Barrage
Prakasam Barrage was constructed by East India Company in 17th century across 1233 m of Krishna River links up the Krishna District and Guntur District. You can see three canals originating from the dam flowing through the Vijayawada City. It took three years to complete the dam. In 1957, a bridge was constructed by Andhra Government in the name of Sri Tanguturi Prakasam (First Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh). This irrigation project benefits nearly 12 lakh acres of agriculture lands in Krishna District.
Krishna Barrage is also known as Prakasam Barrage. Prakasam Barrage irrigates large parts of Southern India. Later, a bridge was also built which helped in transport between the two areas. The view of the lake from the top is awe inspiring and deserves a visit from all nature and photography enthusiasts. It is always open for public but the best time to visit is November – March. The traffic here might be a problem. This is an ideal picnic spot for tourists who visit Vijayawada.
