About Kaup Beach
Kaup is a coastal village nearby Kaup Beach. Kaup comprises of four tiny villages namely Padu, Uliyargoli, Mallar and Majur. This beach is renowned for its lighthouse, a fort built by Tippu Sultan, and three Mariamman (Goddess) Temple. The beach is rough when compared with Malpe Beach. The light house which is of 27.12 m above the base level was built in 1901. This magnificent lighthouse stands to this day and has guided many sailors from the rocky regions in the beach. Visitors are allowed from 4 PM till 6 PM to take a tour around this lighthouse. Since it closer to Manipal town, Kaup beach is a favorite hangout for students. Swimming is prohibited due to previous records of drowning cases in this rough beach. However, one can indulge in football, volleyball etc on this sandy seashore.
