About Mehtar Mahal
The ornamental gateway in Bijapur, Mehtar Mahal is also termed as “Sweeper’s Palace”. This palace was established in 1620 AD. The Mahal houses heavenly crafted mosque and splendidly laid out garden. The Palace is three storied and as an Indo-Saracenic styled entry gate. Birds and rows of swans carved on the minarets will enthrall the photograph enthusiasts. As per history, the sweeper who worked in the palace was once showered by gold coins by the King appreciating his service. The sweeper collected all those gold coins and built the mosque inside this Mahal. The motifs of Lion and Elephant are really a masterpiece amidst the other carvings in the Palace.
