About National Museum of Colombo
Colombo National Museum, Sri Lanka’s largest one, is a fine representation of the nation’s vast history and heritage. The building is a large, colonial structure preceded by open, green lawns and a large Buddha statue. Though the museum contains ancient artifacts and relics of forgotten emperors, the general maintenance of the place is poor. Visitors complain of the lack of information, the sultry humid heat and less informed staff present at this site. The corridors are dark and no directions are given, indicating that the museum is in urgent need of renovation. Random jars of stuffed birds, reptiles in dirty liquid and creatures with multiple heads are left to be viewed by the visitors, with little or no facts and specifics. However, for those truly interested in knowing about Sri Lankan history and culture, this museum is the perfect place to visit.
