About Rara Lake
The Rara Lake is a heaven for bird watchers. This beautiful Lake is the biggest and deepest fresh water lake in Nepal. It is a peaceful place having a dense forest cover. It is a part of the Rara National Park located in the Jumla and Mugu districts. The lake is a popular destination in Western Nepal for trekkers and the beauty of this place is enhanced by the surrounding Himalayan Mountain ranges. The scenery and the cultural background of this place are different from the rest of the Nepal.
Since this Lake is surrounded by the Rara National park it is a home to a diversified variety of flora and fauna along with some vulnerable species. Few migratory birds are found here like gadwall, mallard, common teal, common golden eye, etc.
The lake also has a religious angle to it. Thakur Baba’s Temple is located in the south-eastern corner of the lake. It is believed by the local population that the god Thakur shot an arrow that opened the passage of the lake thus reducing the damage caused by flooding.
The area is a perfect mixture of authenticity, culture, wealth of natural beauty and adventure. Experience the beauty of this place and be mesmerised by it!
