About Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary
Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary is located in south Tripura, about 100kms from Agartala. Adjoining to the sanctuary there is a vast water reservoir and sparkling water body covering approximately 300 square kilometers. This water reservoir attracts many resident and migratory water birds. It has elephants, Bison, Sambhar, barking Deer, Wild Goat or Sarow apart from many other animals and reptiles. The sanctuary covers an area of 389.54 sq km and is rich in flora and fauna.
The sanctuary can be approached via Ambassa and Gandachara or via Ambasa – Jatanbari. Tripura State Transport Corporation buses ply towards different places of North East. Local Transport – Private taxis, auto rickshaws and city bus service are available from Agartala Airport. It is open throughout the year and the best time to visit it, in during the winters, when it is a pleasant climate.
