Somnath Temple is located in Saurashtra region of Gujarat, is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. Somnath Temple has a history of attacks by Muslim kings and plunderers, several times in last two millennia.
With the Arabian Sea in the background, one can easily appreciate the grandeur of this temple which was last reconstructed in 1947 after India’s independence. Amongst its destroyers have been Afghan ruler, Mahmud of Ghazni, Alauddin Khilji and Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
Temple has good arrangements with clean toilets and locker facility for visitors to keep luggage and belongings. One should not miss the Aarti performed here 3 times a day: 7:00 AM, 12:00 Noon and at 7:00 PM in the evening.
