About Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary
The Telangana state is known to have many wildlife reserves and sanctuaries and Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary stands proudly to be known as one of the most beautiful sanctuaries there are. It is located in the Khammam district in Telangana and it spreads over a vast area of 157,010 acres. Kinnerasani is located 15 km away from Kothagudem and 25 km away from Bhadrachalam.
Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is different from other sanctuaries as they mostly comprise of only (in lay man’s term) jungles, whereas, Kinnerasani houses the picturesque Kinnerasani Lake with densely forested islands in the middle of the sanctuary. This turns out to be a plus point for the sanctuary as this water source is a cause for very rich flora and fauna to thrive here.
The sanctuary consists of dry deciduous mixed type forests with teak, bamboo and terminals. Many more varieties of trees grow here like Tendu, Mango, etc. The main attraction of Kinnerasani is the fauna. Numerous species of animals and birds are found here. Animals like - Black Bucks, Sambhar deers, Wild Boars, Chinkaras, Hyena, Sloth Bear, Jackals and Tigers are of a good number here and growing. Due to the sanctuary having a lake, Kinnerasani also has a heaps of birds of many species like - Jungle Fowl, Partridges, Doves, Ducks, Peafowl, Spoonbills, Open bill stork, and many more.
