About Barton Library and Museum
Barton Library located in the city of Bhavnagar is the oldest library in the state of Gujarat , it was built in the 19th century. The two storyed old building with its gothic styled architecture make the building a very impressive one .this library and museum constructed ad jointly have the greatest collection of books, manuscripts, coins, musical instruments, old armory, wood carvings and other old works which gives one deep insight and knowledge about the history and culture of the city as well as the state. This library is named after Colonel Barton who was the Saurasthra British representative. In total they have more than 60,000 books in their collection, it consists of Sanskrit, Gujarthi Hindi and English books.
Barton Library committee is planning to bring the replica of great paintings and showcase them in the museum soon. A huge number of students, researchers, scholars and tourists visit this place as they provide ample information regarding all essential domains .the library remains closed on Mondays and on other days except Sundays the timings are 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Enjoy the bountiful resource collection they have managed to compile with their collective efforts. Enjoy the experience of being in the place of books, works and learning.
