Devarayanadurga or DD Hills is a hill, located in the Tumkur district of Karnataka and is famous for its temples, rocky hills surrounded by forest, road up to the hills gives scenic views of the plains and ever the wonderful climate and charming beauty. Devarayanadurga’s dense forest covers spread across 18 sq. kms of land. The rocky landscape, hilltops dotted with temples and lush greenery around makes it a perfect half day picnic spot. The deer park and dense forest covers give shelter to wild animals like leopard, tiger, and bear can also be seen sometimes though rare.
In the past Devarayanadurga was ruled by the Wodeyars and takes its name from King Devaraja Wodeyar who claimed the town after defeating a local chief Jadaka. Yoga Nrusimha and Bhoga Nrusimha are the two deities worshipped in the temples atop the picturesque hill. These temples are said to be around 2000 years old. The architecture of the temples is an example of Chola rulers’ support for art and architecture. The place is a favorite with both pilgrims as well as mountain climbers. Yet another attraction here is the natural Namada Chilume spring which is considered to be the point of origin of the River Jayamangali. Locals believe that the spring gushed out when an arrow from Lord Rama's bow pierced the ground here.
Moreover ‘Namadachilume’, a place that lies near Tumkur is of ethnic importance since it is believed to be the location where Ram, Sita and Laxman stayed during the Vanvaas. Narashima temple of goddess Laxmi also attracts tourists to travel the way full of obstacles. The most amazing view of the sunset can be enjoyed from Yoga Narshimha temple, which lies on one of the hill top.
Devarayanadurga has something for every kind of traveler; there are several temples here. Yoganarasimha and the Bhoganarasimha temples are the most famous of them. Devarayanadurga is about 15 KMs from Tumkur.
You won't get to see any restaurant and will face problems regarding the unavailability of washrooms. So it would be better to visit the place carrying food and water.
