About Shri Govindajee Temple
Shri Govindajee Temple is a beautiful and palatial temple is in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur. Surrounded by tall, green trees, a lake and picturesque gardens, this temple belongs to the Hindu Vaishnavite sect. Situated next to Manipur's former Maharajas' Royal Palace, Govindajee Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna or Govindaji. Govinda, a name of Lord Krishna, is the presiding deity at this temple. The temple was built in 1846 by Rajarishi Bhagyachandra, who was the ruler of Manipur then, and has unique late medieval architecture.
Temple also has idols of Radha, Balaram, Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra. Shree Shree Govindajee Temple is the most important temple of Imphal city.
