About Daria Daulat Bagh
Daria Daulat Bagh is a summer palace which is located amidst of Cauvery River nearby Mysore. This summer palace was from where, “Tiger of Mysore”, Tippu Sultan ruled the Mysore and its surrounding areas for a while after the death of his father “Hyder Ali”. The entire palace was constructed using Teakwood. The architecture is of Indo-Sarcenic Style. The garden is well maintained and beautifully laid out. In fact the Daria Daulat Bagh was declared as “National Monument” in 1959. The palace is of rectangular shape well raised over a platform. The wide verandah with supporting pillars brings in the pleasant breeze from River Cauvery. The carvings on pillars, bays, staircases etc are amazing artifacts. The ceilings were designed with astonishing floral patterns. Another interesting feature of the summer palace is that the walls, canopies, arches, pillars and corridors were filled with fresco paintings of myriad hues. These paintings depict the battle scenes of Hyder Ali and Tippu Sultan. Government of Karnataka has transformed the palace into a museum which houses Memorabilia of Tippu Sultan, the “Tiger of Mysore”.
