About Massacre Ghat
Tourists can reach this Massacre Ghat very easily which lies in Kanpur Cantonment area. The Ghat played significant part in the “Indian Sepoy Mutiny” which took place during 1857. The mutiny was headed by Nana Sahib of Peshwa. During this rebellion more 500 British people including women and children was continuously kept imprisoned in the Bithoor Fort and released later on promising them to be sent by boats to Allahabad from the Ganges Ghat. However, when they all reached the Ghat, they were brutally murdered by the sepoys. There are many controversies regarding the massacre as it was or wasn’t carried on with or without the orders from Nana Shaib of Peshwa. Tourists can see a tiny white Mandir on this place now. Also the water in this area is not much clean.
