About Gondhala Fort
Gondhala Fort or Gondhala Castle was built by Raja Man Singh of Kullu for the Thakurs of Gondhala village and dates backs to 1700 AD. This fort is worth a visit to experience the stone and timber architecture of the valley. This is old fort not very well maintained now used to be famous for its collection of Horse Horns. Fort situated on the right bank of Chandra River encompasses a magnificent & eight story tower built from timber and stone.
Gondhala Castle used to be the pride of whole Lahaul region when it was in its prime during the rule of the local chief Thakur. The main tower used to provide shelter during attacks and was surrounded elaborate complex of buildings.
Gondhala village is about 16 Kms from Keylong on way to Manali.
