A small yet an important town in the deserts of Rajasthan, Churu has been famous in the religious circuits as well with all wild life admirers. All the devotees of Lord Hanuman make it a point to go on the pilgrimage during the Chaitr and Ashvin Purnima which covers the Salasar temple in Churu, Khatu Shyam ji and Rani Sati temple. It is mesmerizing to be a part of the divine aarti ritual of lord Hanuman at Salasar temple.
Other than the Salasar temple, Churu offers a peep into the Rajputana havellis at Ratangarh. These mansions have a peculiar grandness attached to them. Experience the mural paintings on the lime plaster. All these Havelis were built by the Marwaris merchant who were and are the successful business clan of India. Some merchants like the Kotharis, Mantries and Suranas had a grand lifestyle and grand taste that they had mansions decorated with intricately designed glass work and gold work. Also make it a point to step into the premises of Ratangarh fort which is a part of well planned town built during the 18th century. A fascinating city to admire the importance of town planning much before the city was constructed.
Another architectural marvel in Churu is the Chattaris or the domes built on the cremation sites of Rajputs. Being there just connects you to a tableau which pictures the shifting sands at sunset.
Churu is also a home to the endangered species of Black Buck. Experience the presence of Black buck at the Tal Chappar sanctuary along with migratory birds that tend to stop here while taking their arduous journey during winters.
Amidst the Thar Desert, never visit Churu during the Summers of Rajasthan as the temperatures during the day and night really fluctuate to extremes. So it’s best to take the journey to Churu during pleasant winters only. Road travels is pleasant but it would be awesome to experience the desert landscape around Churu.
