About Shaheed Minar
Saheed Minar used to be called the Octerloney monument after Major-general Sir David Ochterlony, in whose honor it was constructed. This monument was constructed to commemorate his successful defense of Delhi and his victory in the Anglo-Nepalese war. Completed in 1848, it has Egyptian, Syrian and Turkish influences. The monument stands tall against the sky and can be seen from the Brigade Grounds.
